[MW:16405] Re: high presssure pipe welidng as per ASME B 31.3, Chapter. IX requirements

The pressure rating of the piping system will dictate the flange and pipe thickness and this is calculated from the allowable stress in the material at design pressure and temperature.  I have only ever seen pipe 108 mm thick on a major gas pipeline in the North Sea and this was 48 inch diam, you will not get seamless pipe 108 mm thick (what are the diameters?), do you mean 108mm (4 inch) diameter.

Welding A333 is straight forward, TIG root. Low Hydrogen elctrodes or Sub Arc for fill and cap where possible.  Welding similar to plain carbon steels except for different filler wire and impact testing of welding procedure test piece due to low temperature service requirement

You need to establish wall thickness and then write a suitable PWPS before carrying out WPQ testing and the subsequent writing of production WPS.  .

Do you have a welding engineer?  If not please feel free to contact me with any further questions.  I am a UK Chartered Engineer with many years welding experience.

Regards

Chris

Dear Experts,

Wish you and your family happy new year 2012.

We have source  LTCS seamless pipe and flange of 108mm thickness as per the requireemnts given below.  Is it possible to get seamless pipe A 333 Gr. 6 of 108mm thickness.  If so pelase give details and also pelase share your expereince  in welding of such high thickness jobs as per the requireemnts of Chapter Ix  B 31.3.
