Mr. Pkm,
Yes, It is nor advisable to use a cutting torch instead of a heating torch. The reason is simple.
1. Heating torch has divergent flame and provide uniform heating to a larger area and also slow cooling rate. Due to its higher
caloric value, the heating will be faster.
2. Cutting torch on the other hand provides convergent flame, heats only a smaller section comparatively and results in faster
and non uniform cooling rate.
3. Use of cutting torch at times may create under bead / HAZ cracks in alloy, High Carbon steels and thicker sections.
4. The DA - Oxy gas consumption ratio is more comparatively. Hence, heating torch is more viable technically and commercially.
5. So, Heating torch with commercial LPG gas heater is better instead of a Oxy - Acetylene torch.

Dear Experts,
-- I did preheat in carbon steel by cutting torch instead heating torch. Is it acceptable or not, if not means why?
Thanks, Pkm..
