[MW:16119] RE: 16018] filler material properties- E9018-G after PWHT Quench and temper.

Hi Manivannan,

My friend Mr. Pradip Goswami has drawn my attention to your mail . You may review the attached PDS of  Bohler Fox EV 70 electrode conforming to E9018 D1(Modified).

Hope this helps..

Thanks

As per ASME any electrode conforming to "G" classification is a condition specific. It has to meet the mechanical properties as specified in SFA 5.5.However the  impact is subject to what the client wants vs. what the electrode manufacturer can provide. This needs to be discussed with the electrode manufacturer.

FYI I've attached a data sheet of E-9018G electrode (only for information & illustration).. This electrode will not qualify for NACE MR-0175 application unless "Ni" is reduced below 1%. Meeting the mechanical properties after normalizing should not be a concern with these electrodes.

Could you plea provide details on what your supplier had recommended???

Appreciate your feedback.

Thanks

Subject: [MW:16018] filler material propertis- E9018-G after PWHT Quench and temper.

Dear experts,

Please provide us some guidance.

Situation:

We are salvaging castings of grade ASTM A487-4C, using filler material E 9018-G (Ni- less than 1%). This material needs to comply with filler metal chemistry per NACE MR 01 75.

We intend to do a PWHT as Normalize, quench and temper as similar to that of the parent metal.

Proposed austenize (normalize) temperature is 920 Deg C and temper temperature is of 680 Deg C.

Please clarify us the following:

  1. Would the all weld metal mechanical properties still meet the parent material requirements? (after Normalize, quench and temper)
  2. Does the weld metal charpy values meet 27J at minus 46 DegC?
  3. what would be the microstructure of the filler material after PWHT?
  4. Any filler material available that guarantee the above mechanicalproperties in normalize, quench temper condition suitable for A 487-4C material?
