Hi,
Mainly for Carbon steel Pipe-Flange WPS qualification is due to Changes in Group no.
For A105 material P No1Gr2,A106GrB P No1 Gr no1.As per Sec ix Changes in Group no Supplementary variable.
If we qualify pipe-pipe,again we have to qualify for pipe-flange.In order to avoid many WPS qualification,pipe-flange wps qualifion prefered.
I hope that your doubt is clear. If any further clarification do not hesistate to contact me.

Hi,As most of the fittings (flanges) used are forged, and since hardness is one of the important factor to be considered during welding, and there are chances that hardness on the heat effected zone of the fittings may be higher than the required values. Hence inorder to monitor the hardness values and ensure that welding procedure qualification qualifies for the fittings Too, It is prefered to weld a welding procedure qualification between pipe to flange.
