Re: Re: [MW:28852] Re: As per B31.3 2012 & Section IX

Nickel - 1.1 % ?? does that states anywhere of company standard?

But hopefully ER70S-6 can be acceptable with below confirmation and i hope same with rest of fillers having same F No / A No for CSD acceptance.
For ER70S-6 is to be used for sour service the chemistry of the wire shall not exceed the requirements of NACE SP0472 (as follows):
Carbon (C) 0.10 wt% max;
Manganese (Mn) 1.60 wt% max;
Silicon (Si) 1.00 wt% max.
This must be verified for all lots of wire on the stage prior to ongoing production.

Thanks.

Dear Muneeb,

Thanks for your reply.
And for information in this WPS if I mention Note (Filler Wire ER 70S-2 / 3 shall contain less than 1.1%Nickel ).
Can I get approval from CSD.

Regards
Kiran

Hi,

Firstly you should check with your project approved line class / NDE matrix and PMS to know all the requirements, i suggest you to check with competant aramco approved welding engineer, but still find the clarity from my side and revert back if anything.

 a) What is the Base metal thickness Range and  Deposited weld metal range as per B31.3 for GTAW & B31.4 for SMAW.
REPLY
You shall check the welding code not construction code, for ASME IX check QW-451.

 b) As Per ARAMCO & Sec IX- AWS No(Class) ER 70S-2 / 3 can we use in WPS . but in PQR they have used only ER70S-6

REPLY
Yes agree with trailing mail ER70S-6 may increase hardness that is why there has been a  restriction in SA project for sour service, check latest SAES-W-011 and SAIC W 2031 of A8 or A9, still ER 70S-2 or 70S-3 may incorporate if you have already got your 70S-6 PQR / WPS approval with CSD, if not then it may restrict, i beleive CSD will not approve ER-70s-6 filler for sour service.

1) For Sour Service what are the test we required and what is the minimum and  maximum thickness qualification for WPS.

Why u have chosen ER70S6 for GTAW which is having high Mn,Si, which may increase the hardness.
