RE: [MW:23832] Welders Qualification Filletwelds.

The Fracture test piece may not break. You have to ensure you load it gradually as s[ecified until it either breaks or folds over onto itself. I the piece does not break and you are not able to see any of the defects specified in QW-182 then the piece is acceptable. See below:
QW-182 FRACTURE TESTS
The stem of the 4 in. (100 mm) performance specimen
center section in Figure QW-462.4(b) or the stem of the
quarter section in Figure QW-462.4(c), as applicable, shall
be loaded laterally in such a way that the root of the weld
is in tension. The load shall be steadily increased until the
specimen fractures or bends flat upon itself.
If the specimen fractures, the fractured surface shall
show no evidence of cracks or incomplete root fusion,
and the sum of the lengths of inclusions and porosity visible
on the fractured surface shall not exceed 3/8 in.
(10 mm) in Figure QW-462.4(b) or 10% of the quarter section
in Figure QW-462.4(c).

Subject: [MW:23815] Welders Qualification Filletwelds.

Goodmorning.

To qualify a welder who's weld a filletweld, you have to take 1 macroetch and 1 fracture test.
The question is : When it is not possible to break the fracture test or when the fracture test doesn't breaks, what is the possibility (according ASME IX) to qualify the welder.?
