Re: [MW:15464] Number of welder to be used/allowed as per API1104 and ASMEIX

It all depends on what you did on your PQR, the WPS would state the minimum number of welders required for a certain WPS.

Mr. Mohammed,

It is a question of easiness of operation and speed of welding (no. of joints to be done per unit time)that decides the no. of welders to be used in the cross country piping.

Up to say 12" one welder can be used or even two if the speed of line welding to be increased.

Beyond 14" and up to 42" or nearest two welders are used,If the trench permits i.e.,
if there is enough place for welders, even 4 could be used for 42" size.

4 welders are idle for size 48" and above as it will be difficult to get a reach with 2 welders.

The pipe is divided in 4 segments and ladders are used to get a reach for upper segments on either side, while 2 welders complete both bottom segments.

In API 1104 IT IS ESSENTIAL VARIABLE TO BE FOLLOWED IN WELDER SELECTION UNABLE TO GIVE THE LOCATION/ CODE HEADING

PL CROSS CHECK IN API 1104 - FOR OTHER CODE I AM NOT SURE
