[MW:13418] RE: 13406] Requirement for SA 387 GR 12 CL2 SHELL MATERIAL

Hello Asad,

The last 2 requirements (marked in red) are additional requirements over ASME .Usually if they 're called for in the client/project specification then one has to meet the requirements. As regarding the first query Sec-II,A,SA 387 specifies:-

  • Except for Grade 91, all plates shall be thermally treated either by annealing, normalizing- and -tempering, or, when permitted by the purchaser, accelerated cooling from the austenitizing temperature by air blasting or liquid quenching, followed by tempering.
Note the supplementary requirements in SA 387 also addresses the requirements for temper embrittlement  factor to be specified and the temper embrittlement test to be carried out by the mill as asked.

I would advice to look at the design/project/client requirements and then to set forth the procurement guidelines.

Thanks.

Subject: [MW:13406] Requirement for SA 387 GR 12 CL2 SHELL MATERIAL

Dear All,

Greetings.

Vessel to be fabricated as per ASME SEC VIII DIV 1. Shell material is SA 387 GR 12 CL2 -65 thk

DESIGN Temperature is 537.8 Deg Celcius,  Design pressure is 42.2 KG/CM2,  Service- Hydrogen  & flammable explosive

Pls suggest  about below  requirments  for SA 387 GR 12 CL2 - 65 THK  (Noramalized and Tempered) Shell Plate Material

1) Whether cooling  by water can be done in Noramlizing.

2)  Temper embrittlement test is required for this design/ Service condition.

3) Whether any Intermediate stress Relief( ISR ) is required after Welding.

Pls suggest.

Thanks & Regards
