[MW:13559] REGARDING PWHT of STORAGE TANK CLEAN OUT DOOR.

Manoj,

This PQR is acceptable, it is qualified for the design thickness as mentioned below. PQR with higher soaking time is qualified for lower soaking time also as per  QW- 407.2.

Note any change of PWHT (T&T) is a supplementary essential variable (i.e. where  notch-toughness requirement applies ), which is not the case here.

Thanks.

Subject: [MW:13536] REGARDING PWHT of STORAGE TANK CLEAN OUT DOOR.

Dear All,

I intended to use the following  WPS  for  storage tank clean out door welding :

Test coupon thickness  -   40 mm.

Material                       -   SA 516 Gr 70

Welding process          -   SMAW.

Electrode                    -    E 7018-1

PWHT  Temperature     -   620 - 650 degree centigrade.

Soaking time               -   180 minutes.

Rate of heating            -   130 Degree centigrade.

Rate of heating            -   130 Degree centigrade.

Storage tank detail:

Shell thickness              - 18 mm

Annular plate thickness  -  20 mm

Clean out door neck       -  18 mm

Clean out door flange      -  20 mm

Material                         -  SA 516 Gr 70

Welding process            -   SMAW

Electrode                       -   E 7018 -1

Stress relieving temp      -   620 - 650 degree centigrade.

Soaking time                 -   60 minutes.

Rate of heating              -   150 - 200 Degree centigrade.

Rate of heating              -   150 - 200 Degree centigrade

My doubt is whether the soaking time in the PQR is acceptable or I have to qualify another WPS.

Thanks in advance.

Manoj
