Hi Hemant,

It's difficult to find the exact compatible forging grade to SA 517 steel. You may have to select grade which may be close, though not exactly similar in chemical composition. What're the grades you've in mind?
Why did you select SA 517 Gr E for a high temperature component like steam drum. Is there any compelling reason for the same and what the design conditions are?

This steel is not exactly welding friendly and there could be all sorts of issues at higher thickness.

See the attached catalogue, for your reference. Note ASTM A 514 and SA-517 steel are of back to back composition.

Thanks.

[MW:13498] compatible forging material for SA 527 grade E plate

To the experts,

I am designing steam drum using SA 517 grade E plate material in ASME Sec, VIII, Div. II. For this please suggest me a compatible forging material for designing of nozzles.
