[MW:3470] RE: 3467] Re: 3448] Re: Qualification of cladded base metal

Hi!

For any clad restoration or overlay  you require to qualify overlay procedure . e.g In your case SS316L clad on P5A ,In such case for clad restoration  you should have PQR of 316L over lay on P5A base as per Code and design requirement  To qualify this PQR You should have barrier layer of 309MoL or 309L chemistry and subsequent layer of 316L

Hi !Tong

From your  query I presume  You want to weld P5A claded plate to SS316L plate.

Such case

You require to qualify PQR  i) Butt weld of  SS 316L to P5A i.e. P8 to P5a using NiCrMo3 with require PWHT as per code UCS 56

ii) option2  Butter the P 5A  with NiCrMo3 carry out the PWHT as per code later weld with the same with P8 to buttered P5A  but w/o PWHT This will be job specific PQR

Hope there is no clad restoration on SS portion

Hi tong,

You have to qualify the procedure as the same configuration of production. For cladded and buttered configuration you have to make the same test coupon and weld. You have to confiy the chemistry also at the root.

Dear All,

I have one query regarding welding qualification of cladded base metal. Our first base metal is Stainless steel 316L to weld with second base metal P5A cladded with Stainless steel 316L. A layer of ENiCrMo-3 was buttered on bevel of second base metal by other. As i know a layer of ENiCrMo-3 act as barrier layer. The problem is how to qualify the welding procedure on stainless steel 316L to P5A cladded with Stainless steel 316L. Is it i need to qualify  P5A cladded with Stainless steel 316L or Stainless steel 316L to inconel ENiCrMo-3 or Stainless steel 316L to Stainless steel 316L procedure. I really need your advice and expertise. What is the best practice or code requirement on qualification of cladded base metal. Advance thank for your kind cooperation and really appreciated

Regards
