[MW:3006] Re: Use of Butterfly valve in Natural gas storage plant ?

here are two comments from experts on the subject discussion, posted

Hello Rahul,

I have used a lot of butterfly valves in gas processing application at
a reasonable high pressure level of approx. 30bar(g) and differntial
pressures of 20 until 25 bar.
The medium was hydrogen, syn gases, different feed gasses. These
butterfly's were used as block valves (manual and automatic) and in
high cycle service (cycling each 2 min).
The most important advantage is the smaller build-in dimensions and
the lower weight.
As you should select your ball valve, also for butterfly valves it is
extremly important to adapt the material characteristics to the
applicable operating parameters. But after more then 10 years of
experiences in use in this kind of applications, butterfly valves are
more and more used with very good results (also for leak tightness)

Rahul,
I have seen butterfly valves in use in the natural gas industry as
block valves on large distribution systems. When sizing control valves
with high efficiencies in design cv, noise and vibration need to be
considered.

The worth of butterfly valves as control valves has been escalating for the reason that the pressure loss is lesser than other kinds of valves and solidity is indeed very advantageous during installation. These qualities are advantageous for saving power and high effectiveness of devices.
