[MW:3013] RE: 3008] unlisted material testing

We have used some materials not included on ASME B31.3 and what we have done is:

1) Mechanical tests at the minimum (probably already mentioned on the material certificates) and maximum design temperature (what we called hot test)
2) Use the results and calculate the allowables to be used on your WT calculations

with that you have covered the mechanical resistance.

About the chemical resistance... you will have to refer to historic data or do some corrosion test (there is a variety of them out there) to probe suitability.

Hope to be helpful.

Dear all
does anybody have expriences about using from unlisted materials in piping according to ASME B31.3? how establish temperature range and resistance of the material to deleterious effects of the fluid service and of the environment throughout the temperature range and allowable stress according 323.2.3,323.2.4?
