RE: [MW:29729] Difference in ASTM and ASME material

ASTM is the originator of materials specifications . ASME adopted the ASTM grades for Boiler and Pressure Vessel Industries. In the process of acceptance and adoption some material were accepted as is , some were modified to suit design and application requirements in BPV environments.

Each ASME specification at the very beginning tells what're the differences between this ASME Grade vs the original ASTM grade.

On receipt of materials one should try to match the MTC to the PO requirements and the technical specifications, as sampled below. If the P.O indicates ASME but the vendor supplies ASTM grade, then at least a "Certificate of Conformance"  should be expected at the point of acceptance.

Thanks.

Not all ASTM materials are qualified as per ASME standards.

Each ASME standard accepts ASTM materials based on the application.
