[MW:25678] FW: 25673] In-service PQR Test as per API 1104

Hello Ahmed,

Welding procedures for “in Service” welding on pipelines are usually qualified in accordance with API STD 1104, Appendix B. In service welding includes the attachment of repair sleeves, hot tap sleeves, and weld patches. It’s mandated that qualification testing be performed on steels of the same or higher carbon equivalent.

Please read through the requirements outlined in Appendix B. The cooling fluid should be flowing water (preferably) due highest quenching effect, resulting the highest hardness values on the pipe wall and the cross section. Simulating 100% of operating conditions is not a requirement. However the welding PQR coupons under water quenching would enforce welding under the worst conditions (especially controlling hardness & hydrogen cracking).

B-2.5 outlines the testing requirements, for such Type-B sleeve welds. Required tests are as below.

Hope this would clarify your doubts.

Subject: [MW:25673] Inservice PQR Test as per API 1104

Dear Expert,

We have one requirement where our Client wants us to carry out Inservice PQR Test as per Annex B on Header Pipe with simulated actual pipeline conditions

Is it API 1104 requirement to simulate actual pipeline conditions (Viz Pressure, Temperature, & Flow Rate etc) while carrying Inservice PQR Test

Also can somebody guide us on making arrangement which can create / simulate actual pipeline condition by using water as medium.

With Best Regards

Ahmed
