Re: [MW:25749] UT/RT

Dear Sundar,

For offshore structural members as per EEMUA 158

7.2.2    Timing of Final Inspection and NDT

All visual inspection of completed welds shall be carried out as soon as is practical after the item has cooled down to ambient temperature .

NDT shall not be carried out until at least 48 hours have elapsed following completion of welding. However, for welds/items which are subject to a PWHT requirement , the specified inspection and NDT may be performed and reported immediately following completion of the PWHT process. but not before the welds/items have cooled to ambient temperature.

As mhs indicates ,the need of inmediate inspección vía UT/RT is to control the welder performance.
So stop welders with a % of defects found .Lets say 5% ( percentage agreed). Also in case of failure you must duplicate quantity of tests.Till this reduces or to give permanent vacations (on the contrary) to this welder.
