[MW:25389] RE: 25381] MAGNETISED AFTER OVERLAY

Electro slag weld overlay incorporates use of External Magnetic Field (Magnetic Oscillations). This is mandatory practice , for strips over 60mm width to prevent edge under cuts. Magnetic oscillations are done on a regular basis for electro slag weld overlays, without any residual magnetism in the welds.

Also it’s important to know what was the overlay material, Austenitic S.S, Nickel based alloys or Duplex stainless steel ?. If the it’s the first two then unless there is excess dilution causing high ferrite in the weld overlay, there would not be residual magnetism . However this is unlikely for ESSC ,where typically the dilution level 10% or below. If the overlay is Duplex Stainless Steel then it would be magnetic.

Appreciate if you could provide more details for better explanations, including the details for magnetic oscillations.

Thanks.

Subject: [MW:25381] MAGNETISED AFTER OVERLAY

Dear sir,

Base Material P4

WOL by ESSC and SAW process.

After wol material is magnetised and not possible to weld.

Please inform to avoid these and what is solution for this?
