Re: [MW:25374] RE: 25367] SAW flux with low hydrogen content

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your reply.

I Had a look on AWS A4.3 and find that this standard is more compatible with SMAW. The length of the sample is too short for SAW also the run-out length for start and end of the weld, however the SAW process mentioned in that standard.

Hi Meisam,

You need to trust on the certification provided by the consumable manufacturer. Typically all reputed SAW welding consumable manufacturers carry out wire flux classification test, along with which they need to carry out the test for diffusible hydrogen content also.

Look at ASME Sec II, Pt C-SFA 5.17 for typical guidelines( I find this to be better explained)

AWS standard for diffusible hydrogen content is: (AWS A4.3-93-2006),. Standard Methods for Determination of Diffusible Hydrogen Content of Martensitic, Bainitic, and Ferritic Steel Weld Metal . This process is quite tedious. Only knowledgeable labs who test welding consumables on a regular basis, are capable of doing. One needs to find out more details before proceeding with the welded samples.

Hope this clarifies your doubt. Read through the following document for more details.

Thanks

Subject: [MW:25367] SAW flux with low hydrogen content

Dear Experts

I need some information about standard method or test procedure which introduce testing on SAW flux to assure low hydrogen content.

For example when I have BS EN ISO 14174 / S A FB 1 65 AC H5 flux, How could I assure this is H5?
