Re: [MW:13152] Dissimilar welding SS 316 to A335GrP5

Dr.George,

How do check Ferrite number in Inconel welds. Is it by Magnetic method.

I suppose this could be done only by calculating the Dilution.

Does Ferrite number prevents Hot cracking in Inconel welds. What is the significance.

Thanks & Reagrds

Provided you do not get a FN lower than 5

It would be better to butter the P5 portion say 5 mm with ENiCrMo3, perform PWHT and weld it with 316SS .

I would not suggest to direct them directly. What are your thicknesses?

We need to weld a SS 316 Return bend to 5 Chrome, 0.5 Mo alloy steel furnace tube. The electrode proposed is ENiCrMo3. The return bends are in a header box adjacent to the radiant section (horizontal tube furnace – crude distillation unit).

Is PWHT required to be done after welding?

Thanks

Ashok
