Re: [MW:12091] PWHT on ASME U Stamped Pressure Vessel with SS316 internals

Vijay,
We do all the time in our shop eventhough ASME VIII-1 does not required SS 316 (P8) to be PWHT. However you need to have WPS covering welding P8 to P8 and P8 to P1(assumming vessel material is P1) with PWHT.

Subject: [MW:12085] PWHT on ASME U Stamped Pressure Vessel with SS316 internals

Dear Experts,

We are in big trouble. We need your inputs for our problem which we
are facing now.

We are fabrication a pressure vessel with ASME U stamp. In that vessel
some internal of SS316 materials are to be welded. The size is 24".

My question: Can we do PWHT of Loading Temp @425 Deg. C and Soaking
Temp @610-630 Deg.C of 51 mins Soaking time.

Is there any code requirements for PWHT for SS internals???

We got approval from Client design team PWHT with internals and we
proceeded the welding also based on their confirmation.

Now, our QC is not accepted this method. We are in deep trouble.

Kindly clarify.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Vijay
