[MW:12276] RE: 12266] Tube to Tube sheet welds_Minimum Leak Path Measurement _REg.,

Dear KCR,

Leak Path is defined as the shortest way in any direction on a macro/micro specimen between the inside of the tube and the gap between tube and tube-plate, see example below. The maximum value will be the thickness of the tubes wall thickness, but because of improper welding this can become less when weld thickness is not sufficient. As far as I know the minimum acceptable value should be specified by your customer and is not mentioned anywhere in ASME section I.

Through Weld A (green) the path is longer than the thickness of the tube wall t and therefore Leak Path will be t.

The thickness of Weld B (red) is smaller as the tube wall t, here the shortest dimension measured through the weld will be the Leak Path.

Hope this makes things clear for you.

Met vriendelijke groeten / Best Regards
