Hi
ASME sec VIII Div 1, UW-14 allows even opening to pass through weld seams, If weld seam is radiographed. We can interpret that Nozzle neck can pass though weld seams, any welds can be located close to weld seams and reinforcement pad can overlap the weld seams. So we can also interpret that non pressure attachments can be welded close to weld seams or overlap weld seams provided RT is done on weld seams.
If RT is not done, weld distance shall be maintained 13mm.
Most of Client specs states that Minimum weld distance of 50 mm shall be maintained between welds. In this case, if it is not possible to maintain 50mm of weld distance,
We can propose to client to do NDT like (1) RT and MPI/DP for Butt welds (2) UT and MPI/DP for attachment fillet welds and affected HAZ between welds (3) Hardness of affected HAZ. (Depends on criticality of welds, materials, and cost impact)
Some client spec requires PWHT for Carbon steels in case this weld distance not maintained.
Thanks
