[MW:2476] Re: Welder Qualification

Nia,
I think you are mixing up the matters..
Sec IX is for performance/proc qualification.
Once you qualify by it, you can do all ASME related welding jobs. Only difference is the acc criteria for welds will now come from the applicable construction code.
I repeat: For qualification of performance/proc, the Sec IX acc criteria hold true and once it is over, you have to go back to the acc criteria as given by your construction code. Get it?
About qualifying on prodn weld the matter is straight forward, or no?

In that explaining, do you mean if that, if a welder is qualified to ASME IX Construction code he/she can weld to either ASME B31.1 or AME B31.3 Acceptance Code?

However, if he is qualified to ASME IX, by ASME 31.1 Acceptance Code, he can weld only Power Piping not Process Piping, and the reverse is the same. Thus, there is really no progression of hierarchy between Power Piping Acceptance Criteria & Process Piping Acceptance Criteria. In an overall picture, ASME B31.1 and ASMEB31.3  are different  Acceptance Codes that welders should be certify to each of them separately to do which ever Acceptance code  is required.

Or there is no issue regardless of the acceptance code on the Welders Certificate either ASME B31.3 of ASME B31.1, welding of the exchange is acceptable so long as they are qualified to ASME IX Construction Code.

There has been a misunderstanding that welders qualified to ASME IX, by ASME B31.1Acceptance code are qualified to a higher calibre and thus can weld to ASME B31.3 requirements.

Please correct, if I did not really understand what was explained below.

Thank you,

Dear All

there is no relation between Welder Qualification Code ASME IX and Any Construction code as B31.3 or B31..1 in the Acceptance Criteria of welder qualificatin

if ur welder is qualified according to ASME IX he can weld in Power piping projects or Process Piping projects

in another case if ur welder is qualified by Production Test he must follow the construction code which he is qualified by .
