There may be many reasons for root concavity or suck back appearance in weld joints but exact reasons might be found by analysis based on minimum following aspects:
1. Joint design
2. Size Vs Root gap
3. Welding Process
4. Gas flow
5. Welding Speed
6. Current used
7. Welder's Technique
8. Position
9. Skill of welder
