While welding CS with 316, ( chemistry 19Cr+12Ni), there is loss in Cr and Ni more 316 when compare with 309( 24Cr+13). For maintaining austenetic structure in ASS( as per code B31.1, which is attached) minimum requirement of Ni is 8, which may not be achievable with 316. So, it is better to use 309 instead of 316
