Re: [MW:27901] TANK BOTTOM PLATE REPAIR - REG

Dear Experts,

My query is whether a puncture in the bottom plate can be covered with patch plate. In API 653 it clearly says in the critical zone the minimum thickness shall be 0.1inch for placing the patch plate. But for the bottom plate other than the critical zone it is not clearly stated as of my knowledge. I requesting the team members if anybody carried out such type of repair work please share the details with code reference.

With Regards,

Hi ,

You need to replace the full bottom plate in order to avoid the further breakdown during service.

Dear Experts,
During sutdown after blasting  tank bottom plates we observed lot of pitting corrosion. Some pitting are went through the entire thickness and some pittings are in the half way of the thickness.

By following API 653 is it possible to repair with patch plate on the holes formed and went through the entire bottom plate thickness by pitting corrosion. Your kind suggestion is requested.
Tank Construction code: API -650
Bottom plate thickness - 8mm
