Re: [MW:26548] Hardness survey requirement to NACE MR 0175.

Dear Sir,

As per the NACE requirement 7.3.3.3 of doc MR 0175, indicates requirements for hardness survey of PQR [WPS qualification] test on different weld joint types. A PQR coupon of Fillet only needs hardness survey as per FIG 3.

But you are using a WPS qualified with butt weld, hardness tested per NACE. This qualified WPS may be used for doing production weld of fillet. ASME SEC IX permits the qualification by butt weld qualifies for fillet weld also.

Hence the same procedure can be used for production weld - fillet.

Dear Experts,

Please advise on below query.

Applicable code are;
ASME Section IX
NACE MR 0175.

We have one WPS Qualified in butt joint and Hardness survey done  according to NACE MR 0175 (7.3.3.3 Figure 2)  on Butt weld coupon.

Is it correct that we cannot use the above WPS in a fillet joint because the fillet weld hardness survey is not carried out.

Thanks.
Bas
