Re: [MW:26554] Machining of WNRF flange to WNFF Flange - U Stamped Equipment

As long as only RF is machined out and flange thickness is as per B16.5 or B 16.47 there is no need for additional calculations such as App.2. Please note that, as per governing standards (B 16.5 / 16.47) RF thickness is not included in Flange thickness so one can very well remove RF and use the flange as Standard flange. Please make sure not to reduce flange thickness while machining out RF. It will be good practice to perform thickness check and document the same after RF removal.

Hi,

One of our Project the contractor machined the WNRF flange of "U" Stamped Static Mixer (New Equiment) to Flat Face to match with the connecting Piping. The Equipment deign code is ASME Sec VIII Div-1. Please share your experience, Is it acceptable to convert RF Flange to FF Flange for the "U" Stamped equipment.

Thanks in advance,
