RE: [MW:25864] R-stamp

Hi,

We had some time ago a similar problem.

To avoid welding and PWHT, we decided to go for gluing brackets on the shell's innser surface. Baffles were bolted to these brackets.

 

A detailed design of the brackets and surfaces to be glued was made. A specialist company working to qualified gluing procedures was hired (they also gave inputs to the design of the brackets) and full QC was present during the process.

Similar to use of gluing in aero space. Industrial gluing is not for everybody; it is an expert area.

 

It has now been working without problems for about 3 years.

Yes R stamp required if the welding is on pressure part. PWHT is required if the vessel is originally heat treated. Check the MDR for details. You can check the PWHT process as recommended in NBIC and original code of construction.

The question is incomplete as you have not indicated if the vessel is code stamped and what code was stamped. Also what is th e reason for fixing baffle plates now. If it is a new addition, then the design needs to be revisited too.
