We should not confuse between the WPS used for the PQR and a WPSS which will give direct instructions to welders on how to perform a specific weld.

If the join design is not essential variable for that particular process and all the other essential variables are within the PQR range, the WPS for butt weld will be applicable for fillet and socket weld join designs which specified in the applicable code for fabrication and erection (ie, B31.1, B31.3 etc.)
