RE: [MW:25221] Impact Testing requirement for welding procedure qualification

The answer is the normal one – check what is required by applicable client specification, (or datasheets, notes on drawings or client clarifications) and code of practice. What is your application? Is it a pipeline (API rules probably apply) or piping (ASME IX rules probably apply). Minimum design temperatures may be dictated by blow down conditions rather than ambient conditions.

If the thickness us not higher than approx. 22 mm this material is impact test exempted. See ASME B31.3, table 323.2.2A curve B

Dear Experts,

We have the piping material spec. of API 5L Gr. B/ X52/X56 PSL piping materials, MDMT is -3 (North Kuwait) Degree centigrade and thickness ranging from 5 mm to 31 mm.

Please advice whether the impact testing is required to carried during PQT.

With Kind Regards
