Dear K.M. JIJILAL,
Please note as follow:
LSAW PIPES:
- As per API 5L for pipes including & over 36" OD pipes 2 weld seams are permitted & shall be preferably separated by 180 degree.
- As per IS 3589 specification pipes including & over 32" OD, 2 weld seams are permitted by mutual agreement regarding additional NDT for ground seam.
HELICAL SEAMS PIPES
- In helical pipes as per API 5L SKELP weld is defined as minimum separation as 300mm length.
- Also at the joint of coils the cutting of the length is planned to avoid skelp weld.
- There is limitation on pipes dia. & separation permitted.
- No idea regarding "pipe is helical seam welded .construction code is ASME 31.1"
You will find details in API Spec. 5L.
Hope above will assist in arriving at rational decision, but definitely take customer agreement by sending attachment.
Best Regards,
