Re: [MW:24142] Thickness Qualification Range of Impact tested WPS for Piping

Dear all,

1st thanks for your kind support.

So we are in conclusion of 2 as all people suggested.
As per ASME B 31.3 if we are qualifying a WPS the following shall apply.

Case 1. If thickness of test piece is less than 6mm then qualification range will be 1/2t to t+6.
If thickness of test piece is above 6mm then qualification range will be either 16 or t to t+6.

Case 2. for all 1/2t to t+6.

Please provide your input which one is correct case 1 or case 2 ??

Thanks & Regards

One has to refer the applicable Construction Code for the Impact test requirement. If its, ASME B31.3, you need to follow the same.

Dear Experts,

If impact test is required for any WPS the base metal thickness limit is an supplemental material and qualification of minimum thickness limit shall follow QW-403.6.
Now our Consulting Service Department is telling us the qualification thickness limit shall be t/2 to t+6mm. as per ASME B 31.3 table 323.3.1 for piping.

Guys, did you faced this kind of problem? I am experiencing this problem 1st time.
Please let me know your understanding and experience.
