Re: [MW:23453] WPS REVISION

In Table QW-253 of Section IX in ASME BPVC,  the impact test temperature is not listed as a WPS variable (neither essential, nor supplementary essential, nonessential). There are several Supplementary Essential Variables which are applicable in case impact test is a requirement, but impact test temperature and impact test requirements are not included in Section IX.
Impact test requirements are specified in the Design and Construction Code Section.
Assuming that in your case Section VIII-1 applies and your material is a CS, then you have to do following:

  1. You have to check if you can get an impact test exemption following the rules of UG-20(f).
  2. If you cannot get an exemption, then you have to implement the requirements of UG-84.
  3. Pay attention to the requirements of UG-84(c)(5). Depending on the width of the specimen along the notch, the impact test may be conducted at a temperature lower (colder) than the MDMT (see table UG-84.2).
  4. For details of PQR Impact test you have to read carefully UG-84(f)
  5. I would advise to read carefully all UG-20 and UG-84 and then UCS-65,-66 before you finalize your PQR
Do not forget that ASME means: All times, Some times, May be, Exempted. So read carefully
