Hello, Vino,
Please see the attached document which will answers to all of your queries. Usually "Thoriated Tungsten" is most common for all DC welding involving all varieties of metals. Zirconiated is preferred for A.C power sources, which is ideal and most recommended for welding Aluminum and its' alloys.
Usually there's not much of health hazards involved with a change of Tungsten Electrode.
Thanks.

Subject: [MW:23557] Tungsten Rod Query
Experts,
Which is the best Tungsten rod for welding CS or SS steel? What's the factors for choosing the right rod for welding? It is emphasised that for Aluminum welding, Zr-1 is a better option compared to Thoriated one. Is there any health hazard regarding the same and how does it affects the welding pool?
Hope to see your suggestion for my better understanding.
Thanks and Regards
Vino, Doha
