I hope I may use your photograph in a presentation I am giving next month on cracking in welds and at a UK university.
Best wishes

Hi Chirag,
SS. 310 is a fully austenitic stainless steel and well known for hot cracking. Welds do solidify with very little or low( as low as 0%) delta ferrite. Delta ferrite is a "trap" for all impurities, such as "S" and"P".
Cracking phenomena in 310 S.S welds is called "Hot Cracking", is further aggravated by the presence of higher "C". in the weld( which may be the case ER-310 filler metal).
Advice would be to get a filler/ electrode( 310L grade) with very low "S" and "P" and"C". The attached data sheet is for your reference. Also you may read through this paper (LINK BELOW) to get detailed guidelines for solidification /hot cracking problem in fully austenitic stainless steels.
Thanks.

Hi Chirag,
It seems the weld is sensitized. Please do micro examination to confirm the same.

Dear experts,
We have welded SA 240 TP310S to SA 240 TP310S plates with ER 310 filler wire. We get RT clear of the joints but get cracks in root & face bends. I am attaching photo of the same. Please give your expert advice for the same.
Thanks & regards,
Chirag Sandhane
