Hi, Please find herewith the attached file might be useful to you.(FAQ for DNV-OS-F101 Submarine Pipelines Systems ) What constitutes a mitred joint and what constitutes angular mis-alignment? Section 7, Paragraph G106 states that mitred bends are not permitted. However, Section 7, Paragraph B700 references ASME VIII & BS5500 or other industry standard with regard to components fabricated by welding. ASME B31.8, Section 841.232 paragraph a) also states that mitred bends are not permitted but qualifies that angular misalignments of less than 3° is not considered a mitre. So, what is the interpretation of OS-F101? Is an angular misalignment of less than 3° acceptable?" DNV OS-F101 is intended to be applied to subsea pipelines and alignment is in the majority of cases obtained by the use of internal or external alignment clamps. Requirements to angular misalignment of a pipeline follows from Section 5, H200 Pipe Straightness and is hence limited by design considerations from case to case. A mitred bend is made by introducing on purpose an angular misalignment between lengths of pipe. Such bends are not acceptable regardless of the angular misalignment between adjacent pipes.
