[MW:10157] RE: 10155] Time for a Welder Test to complete

Dear Mr. Ali,

If the welder is performing weld connections in projects where a qualified
WPS is required and materials require controlled Heat Input he must follow
the H.I. as specified on the WPS. So mostly it is allowed to have different
welding time between welders but only within the limits of the PQR/WPS.

Met vriendelijke groeten / Best Regards

Dear All,

Hi,
We usually conduct WQT in our premises but I have observed that the
time taken to complete the joint {Root + Hot + Fill + Capping
(excluding grinding/flushing in between)} varies from welder to
welder. Testing comprises of Visual & Radiography (No Mechanical
Testing)

So my question is "Should it be considered? Considering a Ø6" Sch 40
pipe in 6G position, our best welder completed the test in 25 minutes
with no indication. But some welders took about an hour or more. I
feel that if we look at the universal formula "S = V x T", time is
inversely proportional to Travel speed which make it directly
proportional to the Heat Input.

So is it OK to disqualify a welder based on time taken to complete
that weld?

Thanks & Regards,

M. Ali
