RE: [MW:4047] Prequalified WPS for Str Steel welding

Dear Mohan,

Your wps has been probably qualified according to ASME IX because it is for piping as you mentioned above. ASTM A36 is a steel with minimum Yield strength 250Mpa.ASTM 106 Gr. B is a steel pipe with minimum Yield strength 355 Mpa. Technically it is acceptable to use ASME IX qualified wps for welding of structural steel ASTM A36 but as per AWS D1.1 you have to qualify a new WPS.
The sample you can take from AWS D1.1 itself.

best regards,
Elshan.

Our compnay want to fabricate some str steel items using ASTM A36 material, but we have piping WPS/PQR only for carbon steel material ASTM A106 Gr.B. Please any one guide me to prepare the prequlified WPS based on Piping WPS/PQR as per AWS D1.1 code, if possible send me WPS format.
