Re: Fw: Re: Re: [MW:4144] Pitting acceptance criteria

Dear Qadar,

Please note that pitting evaluation has been described very well in API 510, Sec.7, clause 7.4.3. You can also refer API - 579 Sec.6. But as per my experience 12.5% reduction as per ASME Sec VIII will be most approppriate.

Hi,

Similar kind on situation I experienced in one of the export Job
It was 55 mm SS plate used in construction of pressure vessel which was pitted from outside
We grinded extrnal surface to make it smooth. This was done taking client in confidance.
After this PT was done on externl grinded surface and also thk was checked so as to meet design requiremnt.Luckily manufacturer has used higher thk plate for manufactring. So problem was reolved

One other requirement is the "workmanlike finish". This is a subjective judgement. In either case, if buildup is required, ensure that your organization is certified to repair fittings and perform welding in accordance with approved WPS. decision would be yes or no or can the pitting b eliminated i.e repair welded as
a welding inspector i would have some idea as to wether or not it way be used

criteria

Dear all,

We received one 40" elbow (ASME 16.9) ASTM A 860 material having so much
pitting on full external surface. Which standard we can refer for the
acceptance criteria?

I referred in ASTM A 860, its talks about only depth of surface
discontinuity(5% of the nominal thickness), there is no detail about the
area of the pitting allowance.

Pleasehelp me on this issue. Very urgent

Regards,

Gulam Kader
