Re: [MW:28195] Tensile properties of 6010 and API 5L X70 Pipe

The overall weld metal shall satisfy min. requirement for mechanical properties of base metal. So there is no matter what you are using as root pass if you can satisfy those minimums. As a fastest way, you can check the effect of 6010 for root pass in your PQR. I have seen too many PQR's which have qualified with similar situation.

You can use E 8010 for root and alternatively E 8018 / 9018 for balance passes.
E 9010 is good but, expensive.

Dear Expert,

we need to weld the API 5L X70 grade pipe and using the  electrode 6010 for root, While tensile strength  of the 6010 electrode is 430 MPa while tensile strength of X70 grade is (570 to 760)MPa. So tensile strength of 6010 is lower than x70.For hot pass, filling and capping we are using 9010.

Please provide your expert opinion that we can use the electrode having low tensile strength than the base metal  and if yes kindly give the reason

Regards,

Asif
