Subject: [MW:27610] SA 350 LF2 normalized & Temper WPS
Dear Expert
I have sa350 lf2 flange in normalized &temper condition, tempering at 620 deg cel This needs to be welded with sa516 gr 70 normalized condition. For same i have wps with metal group p1g2 to p1g2 (normalized),--was PWHT performed for the PQR???
Kindly advice
1) is there a requirement of new wps as one of material is in normalize + temp condition or existing wps for normalized condition is applicable – No, weld as per the WPS/Qualified PQR. Please follow the PWHT temperature as below.
2) Pwht temp in existing wps is at 620 deg cel Will this needs to change as tempering of sa350 lf 2 is at same temp – No, PWHT temperature should be same as or below the tempering temperature, should not exceed the tempering temperature, as it may cause a fall of impact properties.
3) if new wps is req then for PQR can i use normalized sa 516 gr 70 plate tempering to same at 620deg cel ( to simulate SA 350LF2 ) then welding follwed by pwht at 620 deg cel – No such simulation are not required unless specifically asked by the code or client.DIV-2 asks for simulation coupons. Or else for a Sec-IX qualified PQR for DIV-1 applications no such requirements would be required.
