Dear All,
-- We were asked to qualify the welders for tacking, while the fit-up of pipelines in our current project. The client has specified to use GTAW technique for the tacking and the position to be maintained is 5F, (pipe to plate). The standard I am referring to is ASME 2007 edition.
i. The test position was determined through QW 132.4 --> specifying 461.6 (e)
ii. The test specimens were cut out as per QW 462.4 (c) [Page no: 159]
iii. The tests were determined via QW 181.2 ---> Tests for Fillet welds, performance.
1. Fracture Test => QW 182.
2. Macro examination => QW 184.
I believe that this much steps which I have taken are correct for my requirement. The Client too has agreed upon these. Here, the macro examination also does not pose any issues, since I am quite sure of how to do it. But, on contacting certain labs here in the localities, which are known for performing Destructive and NDT for WPQ, they informed me that the necessary equipment for performing the Fracture test, is not available with them. But, when I extended my search, I am coming up with more negative answers, which also included that they do not know how to perform the specific fracture test.
On supplying the same query to our client, they are keeping their stand, to perform the tests as requirement, even though they are not providing any ideas for the same. Now I am at a road block, on how to perform the mentioned test.
So, please take this matter into your hands and give me some valuable advice, for which I am already grateful.
With all due regards and thanks in advance,
Dileep Sankar.
