Re: [MW:21303] RT for Nozzles and Clean Out Door

there is not butt weld applicable on flush-type cleanout door

Dear Krishna Kamal:

It is full-RT and it should be so.
These openings are so critical that even in some cases, these openings shall be prefabricated separately and then PWHT shall be applied on them and that's when you can install them on the tank (i.e. at site). So do not be surprised by 100% RT requirement.

Mr. JML,

Thanks for your response.

We do not have UT facility at the moment. Actually i ma talking about the welding of nozzle with the shell. for which API 650  says:-

8.2.2.d) The butt-weld around the periphery of an insert plate that extends less than the adjacent shell course height and

that contains shell openings (i.e. nozzle, manway, flush-type cleanout, flush type shell-connection) and their

reinforcing elements shall be completely radiographed.

The area where i am confused is 8.1 in API 650 says this criteria applies to vertical joints only.

Kindly confirm.

Krishna

Mr. BR Krisna: You can apply  UT, Fhase Array  test, in lieu RX.

8.3.1 Ultrasonic Examination in Lieu of Radiography

When ultrasonic examination is applied in order to fulfill the requirement of 7.3.2.1, the provisions of Annex U shall

apply.

I remember you that  this flush type Shell connection  required  weld heat treatement.
