RE: [MW:21456] welding ss pipes with R316LT1

Hi,

I had received similar comment  in the past from the same source. Therefore my humble submission is as below.

Voestalpine Bohler Welding is in the business of high performance filler alloys applied in applications involving exotic base materials used in special & demanding applications.

At times, along with providing welding/application solutions,  attaching a product data sheet clarifies a lot regarding Mechanical & other properties expected from the weldment .

For Exotic filler alloys-developed for specific applications (as requested in the trailing mail) need more clarification & PDS is the best tool. This is dissemination of information for which our forum is so dear to many, specially to  Welding Engineers in the learning curve.

In fact, many a times direct requests for product recommendations  have been placed  in the forum for critical applications. These requests have to be supported with.

Welding filler alloys  designed specific to those requirements will provide  immediate help WITHOUT WASTING TIME. Others also get to know latest developments in filler alloys available to them .

Generic product  recommendations is off-course not acceptable in the forum which  I agree.

Hope this clarifies..

Thanks

Dear Friend

I really don't think this is a forum to promote a particular manufacturer's product & services, but to share the technical knowledge, experience and expertise, of each of the valued forum members.

Hi Deepak,

There is no way you can avoid slag going to otherside-in fact purpose of a flux-cored TIG filler  is to produce fluid slag acting deemed purging.

I would suggest you may look at the attached PDS of Avesta 316L/SKR -4D electrodes recommended for such applications.

Hope this helps..

Thanks

Dear All

I need to do some repair works in 316L pipes. So purging in these pipes are a problem and so am planning to use R316LT1-5 from the manufacture kobelco. Welding process is TIG. As per the manufacture R316LT1 does not requires any purging and can do the root run using the filler wire. But slag will be formed in the back side of the root. IS there any way to remove these  slags as it is drinking water line.

Heat tint (temper) colours on stainless steel surfaces heated in air // Heat tint

Introduction The colour formed when stainless steel is heated, either in a furnace application or in the heat affected zone of welds, is dependent on several factors that are related to the oxidation resistance of the steel. The heat tint or temper colour formed is caused by the progressive thickening of the surface oxide layer and so, as temperature is increased, the colours change.   Oxidation resistance of stainless steels However, there are several factors that affect the degree of colour change and so there is no a single table of colour and temperature that represents all cases. The colours formed can only be used as an indication of the temperature to which the steel has been heated. Factors affecting the heat tint colours formed Steel composition The chromium content is the most important single factor affecting oxidation resistance. The higher the chromium, the more heat resistant the steel and so the development of the heat tint colou...

Re: [MW:10788] ON PLOT PIPING & OFF PLOT PIPING

Piping systems involved for the flow lines and gathering lines from the well head isolation valve to the production facility or processing plant isolation valve are determined as OFF PLOT. ON PLOT defines piping system in the processing plant and production platform. ANSI/ASME B31.4 applies for off plot piping system. B31.4 allows the use of either API 1104 or ASME section IX (as appropriate). However, occasionally, a very small system such as piping within 500 feet of a processing plant (some client also said 400 feet) may be declared B31.3 rather than B31.4. When B31.3 is invoked, only ASME Section IX is used. before you decide which code to use for welding procedure and/or welder qualification for pipe welding, you have to know the design and construction code applicable to the system. Please read far enough into scope and diagram illustrating the application of either B31.3 and B31.4 hope this helps rgds 2011/4/21 pradip kumar sil < pradipsil@gmail.com > Dear all, ...
