Re: [MW:17867] Regarding the welder performance repair evaluation procedure

Dear Dominic,

As per the Procedure used on the actual Work / Job, it is mandatory to qualify the weld procedure replicating the weld conditions on the job.

Various codes and standards specify or make it mandatory to qualify the procedure according to methods in the codes or standards.

You may see references to these methods in API 1104 for Line pipes, or ASME section IX and so on and so forth...

It is must to identify the jobs most frequently done in your company and get the procedure qualified or tested on job to re-validate an existing procedure.
This is most easily done when a chronological / sequential record is maintained by the company welding records department.

Each welder will have to be subsequently qualified for the welder performance as per his / her area of work and machine used.

You may feel this is quite complicated initially. Give it some attention and spend some time drawing out a flow chart. You may be successful in actually saving time and effort.

Good Luck!
