Exactly. Mr Sridhar is correct. In Aramco according to their standards it is there about width of SMAW, GTAW( 3 to 5 times of diameter) processes . But if the Client specification or standards is not mentioned anything about Width , you can use best industry practice. You had been used already Multipass caping. It is acceptable. If there is requirement of hardness test, you can assure the hardness(mechanical properties) value to proove your client about the acceptance of your caping ( main intention of multi pass caping).

Calculate the total width of cap run and use 3 layers in place of 2 layer deposit.
This will help to increase the travel speed (due to reduced width of each layer) and also avoid NCRs.
