Re: [MW:17958] Measurement of interpass temperature

Hi Sevak ,

Read the below from ASME-IX definitions for Interpass temperature and the location :

the highest temperature in the weld
joint immediately prior to welding, or in the case of multiple
pass welds, the highest temperature in the section of
the previously deposited weld metal, immediately before
the next pass is started.

Saravanan

There are 2 locations you need to consider,

1. For maximum temperature, you need to measure it on the Weld Bead
2. For minimum temperature (minimum preheat to be maintained) you need to measure it 75mm from the weld toe on either side.

Subject: [MW:17950] Measurement of interpass temperature

Dear Experts,

Can anybody explain at which location interpass temperature to be measured during welding ?

Also what diference it will make in the weld metal property if we follow the wrong location of measurement of interpass temperature ?

Is it written in any where in any code, where interpass temperature to be measured ?
