Re: [MW:13121] Gasket for Hydro testing of pressure vessel

Hi,

As you are aware Gaskets are used to create seal and answer would be "No reuse of Gasket" for pressure containing components. Please see attached photographs to understand difference between a new and used ring gasket, As can be seen that used gaskets have a wider coined surface.

"An irregular coined surface, caused by a previous marginal or unusable ring groove connection make-up, renders a ring gasket unsuitable for re-use.

Any BX ring gasket previously used in a made-up connection, in which the flange raised faces actually touched  together, will almost always fail to test when re-used.

Previously used API ring gasket of any type will provide a second time seal suitable for unattended field service. Some persons will reuse gaskets for shop test purposes believing that money saved will exceed the cost of occasionally having to break and remake the connection.

Field expense and risk so greatly exceeds shop expense and risk that it always pays to use new gaskets in the field (even new gaskets handled roughly will sometimes fail to hold on first use."

Dear Ali,
We can use original service gaskets in locations other than reinstatement flanges @ test boundaries. For reinstatement flanges we can use any other because we will reinstate the original.
