Re: [MW:4524] Pipeline NDT crawler using magnetic signaling

Thanks Declan

Conventionally the crawler movement is control by using isotope (cesium) for signaling and this is radioactive products. Certain country totally banned this product from entering their country.
I heard certain NDT company has this crawler system using magnetic signaling but for offshore pipeline the line pipes is coated with concrete up to 100 mm thick and this is where the problem arises where the magnetic field cannot reach the transmitter put on the crawler.

Amir,

Rigaku, Philips make very good x-ray equipment. Try them.

As regards, limitations from concrete piping, I'm not so sure about that. The magnetic signaler sits just past the weld to well obviously stop the crawler.........Concrete sleeves stop 6-8" before the end of the pipe, so I'm not sure how they could interfer with the signal.............

Hi all

I'm searching for a magnetic signaling system for NDT crawler for one of the pipeline project that I'm working on. Appreciate anybody can give me some info or introduce me the company that has such system.
What I understand of this system is the limitation that it has when dealing with heavy concrete coating on the line pipes.
